Pax Dei’s Discord Social SDK Integration

Pax Dei becomes the first MMO to integrate the Discord Social Software Development Kit directly into the game, supercharging their community both in and out of the game.

Overview

Pax Dei is a player-driven sandbox MMO developed by Mainframe Industries (with veteran developers from CCP Games, Blizzard and Ubisoft). Players build their own cities, markets, social structures and make the world what it is - there are no NPCs handing out quests or telling players what to do. In fact, the buildings and structures you see on this page were all custom made by players in the game, any other player can visit them.

Discord has been at the heart of Pax Dei’s development: the Discord server launched with ~2000 members and grew to ~80,000 at the release of Early Access a little over a year later. Our Community Managers have been integral not only in building that community but in reporting player sentiment to the client, with good activity in feedback sections on the Discord Social SDK integration helping to guide the next paths in this exciting adventure.

This feature is still new and experimental, making it imperative to engage with the community to make sure it’s successful. Our team passed on key feedback to the client, set up methods for Discord employees to directly reply to players, and helped ensure the system worked as intended.

Pax Dei is one of the first games in the world and the first MMO ever to integrate the Discord Social SDK, which adds Discord’s trusted social functionality directly into the game. Discord enables us to connect with the world’s largest and most engaged community of players – in fact, Pax Dei’s chat is powered by Discord, this includes DMs between players, zone-wide chat, and even players talking locally. Players can chat with each other both in and out of the game via Discord.
